Celebrating New Year the Japanese Way
When N invited me to join her and her husband in her husband’s jikka (実家)、i welcome the chance to experience The Japanese way of Celebrating new year.
Meet with N and M around 12:30 and went to get some Japanese traditional games and then proceed to Houryuuji Temple. It was like transported back in Old Japan. It was also the first time I saw what is inside a pagoda. It’s really a place full of history. Then we went to and onsen before we proceed to M’s parent house.
Had a light dinner of Oden and a few minutes 12pm we had some soba and then sleep. Early in the morning we went to Mount Ikoma and visited Ikoma Temple. On the way up we rode a very interesting cable car
After the temple visit we went back to have some traditional japanese new year food called the osechi.
Then we went to the park and flew some kite, been a long time since ive done that, then we played some japanese badminton. Then we went back we played some japanese card games. It was fun, another first for me, I would not mind doing it again
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
明けましておめでとう!!

I don’t like much of Osechi ryori also. My mother in-law prepares a lot eventhough people in the house aren’t that much interested. Sad for her. Great experience for you. I love Kurikinton and soba in the new year. I also tend to overeat on mochi…my hubby would joke that I look like Kagami-mochi already. Mean man!

@Grace.. I don’t think a lot of Japanese likes the osechi ryori
Even M does not like it he only likes the chestnut
but we had some sashimi and roast beef and other food since they have an alien guest (me). Yeah i love mochi also
Yeah it was really a great experience
