Each of this lantern cost a 1000yen. These are for the dead. Basically families buy a candle together with this lantern to honor their dead love ones.

I have seen this done in movies but never in person. What a great way to honor the dead. I will be in Kyoto in December. First time for me! Great photos (even without a tripod)
